Practical guide to data protection, organizational law, and governance for WXP customers

HP’s WXP is a cloud platform that helps IT departments better understand the digital workplace in their organization. It analyzes telemetry data from endpoints (computers, printers, and headsets), enabling proactive fleet management, more stable IT, and less “digital friction” for employees.

The HP Workforce Experience Platform (WXP) is a cloud platform. It helps IT departments understand the company’s digital work environment—i.e., the IT devices used within the organization.

HP WXP is the technical foundation for a strong workforce experience. Instead of “good food, good mood”, one could say: “smart gear, mind clear”. The goal is for technology to run smoothly.

Using such a platform typically raises questions in Switzerland: Is WXP compatible with the revised Data Protection Act? What rules apply to federal authorities, cantons, cities, and municipalities? Which settings must a customer configure themselves, and how can misuse by one’s own employees be prevented?

LLAG addressed these questions in a Practical Guide for HP. The guide shows, among other things:

• that WXP can be used in Switzerland in compliance with data-protection law, including by federal authorities as well as by cantons, cities, and municipalities
• which settings customers must configure themselves in the WXP Admin UI and what to pay attention to
• which technical and organizational safeguards against misuse by one’s own employees are advisable, including a control framework and template policies
• how to structure a data protection impact assessment for WXP (see https://www.dp-services.ch/dsfa)

The Practical Guide is intended for IT, data protection, and compliance leads in companies and in public administration who are introducing WXP or already use it.
